Instructional Practice


UPR Aguadilla teacher candidates develop their Instructional Practice skills and disposition in their methodology and teaching practice courses. Overall, UPR Aguadilla candidates fully meet most of the 32 instructional practice criteria in the TWS. An analysis of the available data on the TWS (Assessment 5) over the past spring semester shows that over 97% of UPR Aguadilla candidates fully meet each of the criteria under the aspects of Instructional Design and Teaching (pages 7 and 8 of the instrument) and Decision-Making in the Teaching Process (pages 9 and 10 of the instrument) during the teaching process. (See 1.2.1 Research and Evidence TWS) for more details and (see 1.2.2 Candidate Research and Evidence Use Formative Evaluation Instrument Assessment 4.1 and 4.2).

Most of the items on the Classroom Observation Instrument (Assessment 4.1 and Assessment 4.2) measure some aspects of Instructional Practice. Over 95% of UPR Aguadilla teacher candidates reached or surpassed the target proficient level on these Instructional Practice items over the past spring semester. All of the 37 candidates from Spring 2023 reached or surpassed the target proficient level on all seven items related to Strategies.  Thirty-seven (95%) of the candidates reached or surpassed the proficient level on the four items related to assessment. 90% candidates reached or surpassed the proficient level on the three items related to Planning. The data from spring 2023 shows similar results with respect to Instructional Practice. On the scale of 1 to 3 in Assessment 4.1, 97% of the teacher candidates got more than 3.89 that was the goal of the assessment to qualify as Exceeds. On the other hand, on the scale 1 to 3 in Assessment 4.2, 99% of the teacher candidates got more than 3.93 that was the goal of the assessment to qualify as Exceeds as well according to the scale of both instruments.
